David Malley

I'm a creative, collaborative, and compassionate branding and communications professional. My toolbox includes 20+ years experience as a storyteller: writing, editing, and managing projects and teams at consumer magazines (Rolling Stone, Maxim), public radio (American Public Media), as a freelancer (journalism and agencies), and in a large corporate setting (Medtronic).

Marketing Communications

As a marketing professional I develop and lead creative omnichannel communications strategies from "cradle to grave" for product launches, competitive response campaigns, disease state awareness months, and more. While at Medtronic, the industry leader in med tech, I have built a portfolio that demonstrates a knack for turning complex concepts and strategies into simple and easy-to-consume campaigns and copy.

Journalism

As a young editor I worked with dozens of writers, including some you may've heard of: Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson, and David Foster Wallace. As a Senior Editor at Maxim, I developed and wrote gritty crime stories and was a top editor of columns such as Instant Expert, Idiot Nation, and Ask Us Anything. And for public radio's most-listened-to classical music show, Performance Today, I developed hundreds of scripts. Along the way, I've written travel essays, reviews, interviews, cooking articles, and more.

Performance Work

I wrote and performed a five-minute solo included as part of Portrait Series Berlin, directed by Michael Laub/Remote Control Productions. (Performances in Rotterdam, Zurich, and Berlin.) I also played a WWII-era American soldier in a documentary that aired on German television (ZDF).

Creative Work

My personal essays have been published in books and won awards (the Gesell Award for Excellence in Literary Nonfiction, 2012). And I’ve written two books: a cookbook (ghostwritten) and a novel (beloved — by me — and yet unpublished).
